William E. Potts

William E. Potts (born 1935, died February 29, 2004) From 10 November 1983 to 13 June 1986, Potts, a Major General, served as the Chief of Ordnance, Department of the Army. He was the first individual to hold that position after the position had been abolished twenty-three years earlier.

Potts was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1935 and entered the U.S. Army on November 8, 1958 through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at Vanderbilt University. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and subsequently received a Master of Public Administration.

Potts has two children by Peggy Potts (Peggy Jean Browder) - Gary and Neil Potts. Grandchildren include Ashley and Lauren Potts.

Potts retired in 1987.
